Our bid and marketing team attended the Recruitment Expo, largely due to the fact that there were so many seminars and training sessions on offer, a good number of which were related to marketing and industry trends. The credentials of the speakers we planned to see were impressive, and we booked onto 4 sessions, one of which was 20 creative ideas recruiters can use on social media, by Julia Doherty from Green Umbrella Marketing.
Julia is the only speaker we remember (for positive reasons at least). She was the only presenter who:
a) Showed a genuine interest in engaging with the audience.
b) Understood anything about utilising presentation slides as a visual tool rather than a place to throw her speakers notes on the big screen for us all to read.
She appreciated that the event was aimed at recruiters, and her session content was relevant to the audience. So many other speakers that day may have been experts in their fields, but their ‘general’ advice was top level, and not made relevant to those attending.
The training session moved at a good pace, and despite the short time slot (half an hour) was packed with ideas that could easily and immediately be implemented.
If you are attending the next Recruitment Expo (or any other event), make sure you drop in to see Julia. I’m confident it will be the most positive and productive session you go to – no berating you for doing things wrong, no dreary ‘death by powerpoint’, just relevant and clearly evidenced examples of successful ideas and campaigns.
