Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action
Why do you do what you do?
Why are some people and organizations more innovative, more influential, and more profitable than others? Why do some command greater loyalty from customers and employees alike? Even among the successful, why are so few able to repeat their success over and over?
Here is my review that I posted on Goodreads:-
Some people are criticizing this book saying that's the message is repeated over and over. I agree, but it works! People believe what you believe. What is your “Why?”. Has your “why” gone fuzzy in a similar way to Dell or Apple (when Jobs first left).
I liked the way he was open and honest towards the end of his book by telling his own story. I could relate to that more than the stories about Apple and Dr Luther King. In the U.K. we call it “losing your mojo”, he calls it “your Why has gone fuzzy”. Forgetting why you started your business in the first place leads to that depressing feeling. You end up focusing on new products and services to feed the bottom line, which removes the heart of what you have created. If you remove the heart then it won't be long before it stops beating.
My key takeaway actions:
1. Create both a vision statement as well as a mission statement for my business.
2. As the leader of my business, the “why” needs to be incorporated in everything I do. I need to “oooze” my vision.
3. Never get greedy. I've seen too many other businesses fail due to greed.
