GU Live Lunch – Ep 166

GU Live Lunch Episode 166 Social Media News

Join Christina, Mark and Kim this week as they talk about what has caught their eye in Social Media and the online world! This episode includes more updates to threads, changes to WhatsApp and Instagram as well as a new social media app for kids!

Here are the snippets:

05:56 – Social media for kids, yes – really! We’ve recently learned of an app called Zigazoo for kids. It’s a child-friendly TikTok-style app for kids where they can upload and complete challenges.

10:16 – More Threads updates; as well as users having the ability to share Threads to Instagram Stories, you can now share them as an Instagram post and direct messages. Other updates include Alt text for images, and improving accessibility options. Similar to Instagram, you can now sort the accounts you follow by name or followed date.

14:52 – Google officially announced that it is downgrading the visibility of two forms of rich results, the ‘HowTo’ and the FAQ. The FAQ rich results will essentially be phased out for most websites while the ‘HowTo’ will be completely removed from search results on mobile devices.

18:26 – LinkedIn’s added a new element to the “About” section on member profiles, which will now enable you to tag up to five of your top skills. You can find this at the footer of your About section. Use this to highlight your top skills to make it easier for visitors to get a quick idea of your competencies.

22:52 – Instagram is testing new collaborative posting options to encourage participation. Essentially, you’re going to be able to add your own images and videos to an existing post. The aim is to encourage more people to collab within the app.

28:32 – WhatsApp has added another element to its video calling option, with screen-sharing now available in the app. This isn’t available on the desktop app just yet. WhatsApp says screen-sharing is rolling out from August 8th, and will be available to all users shortly.

33:21 – New masterclass announced! Facebook groups: how to build an engaged community. Join us Tuesday, 15th August, at 7pm. Tickets available at https://bit.ly/Engaged-Facebook-Commu…

See you next week!
