How do I get better engagement on Twitter?
Dear Nicole,
I run my own bakery business, it’s been my life for the past 10 years now and I absolutely love my job. I have never been the best with social media but I’m on most of the social media channels, I have accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter and I’m quite impressed with myself as I have just started my own TikTok channel. Most of the channels do get some good engagement but Twitter has slowly dropped and this leads to my question for you, what posts are most likely to get engagement on Twitter?
Stacey, Yorkshire.
Dear Stacey,
Firstly, who doesn’t love a delicious bakery? Secondly, a big congratulations to you for reaching 10 years of running your own business, such a fantastic achievement! Thirdly, it’s great to hear not only that you are active on social media channels but also that you get some engagement through these when promoting your business. Moving onto your question, now this might come as quite a surprise but there have been a lot of changes to Twitter since Elon Musk took over and I think the majority of users have noticed that the engagement comes in waves due to posts not being seen as much in the timeline. That being said it’s still worth trying to promote your business and products this way as there will be that audience there for you. I have done some research on what posts could gain that engagement again for you through Twitter - what are we waiting for? Let’s dive in!
- Ask Questions - Asking questions to your audience is a great way to encourage that engagement from your followers. It can be something relevant to your brand, or just something to get the conversation started. For example; I’ve noticed ‘this or that’ posts do great on Twitter - you could ask, ‘Jam Donut or Glazed Donut’.
- Brand Announcements - Do you have exciting news to announce? An upcoming product? The latest new vegan sausage Roll? This is absolutely the type of content you want to share with your followers. You can also pin this tweet so it appears at the top of your page so any visitors viewing your page will see this!
- Testimonials - Have you got an amazing testimonial or review that you think is worth sharing? Then do this! This shows proof that your business/products are working and worth taking a visit to your bakery to purchase some of your delicious goods.
- Gifs or Memes - As it stands we do only get 280 characters, so something as simple as using GIFs and memes is a prominent way marketing across the platform. You can create your own GIFs or use the GIF library Twitter has to offer, filled with funny and relatable content. For example; you could insert a GIF relating to your business ‘when you try our homemade tiger bread…[insert GIF]’
- Social Media Holidays - Jumping onto relevant social media holidays is a great way to engage your audience. i.e. Bank Holiday posts, Easter posts, Christmas posts etc. The list can go on and on.
I hope these top tips can help you and all the best with your Twitter page Stacey!
Nicole
